Commercial litigation

The work of the Commercial Litigation team

The team works for a wide range of clients – from multinational companies, to public bodies, to individuals seeking advice about their investments whether they be artworks or shareholdings: there is frequently an international element. The lawyers have expertise in many different areas from fraud to insolvency, professional negligence, art litigation, international arbitration and mediation. Although the Firm has well established links with Italy, the commercial litigation department is also developing ties with clients in Switzerland and Eastern Europe. The department is fast moving, but the lawyers are mostly incredibly relaxed even when the pressure is on.

My experience in the Commercial Litigation team

I sit in the ‘Reputation Management' team, an offshoot of the litigation team which focuses on bringing and defending libel and privacy actions to protect our clients' interests. I have been involved in applying for a harassment injunction; worked to prevent the publication of private information in a tabloid newspaper scoop and helped out on an international libel case. I often find myself drafting letters to clients and opponents, liaising with Counsel; updating the team on developments in the law and dashing to court to file documents before court deadlines. There's a ton of responsibility, though I know who to turn to when I find myself at a loss. I have particularly enjoyed spending time at the Royal Courts of Justice, especially having the opportunity to make applications before a Master to test out my law school advocacy skills.
