The work of the Employment team

Withers is one of the few City firms to offer first-class employment advice to both employers and employees. On the employer side, clients range from large corporates from various industry sectors to small owner-managed businesses and charities. On the employee side, Withers is ranked in the top tier for providing legal advice to senior executives. Serving these clients involves a good mix of contentious work - such as bringing or defending claims for unfair dismissal or sex discrimination - and non-contentious work such as negotiating employment contracts or providing advice regarding employment rights on a day-to-day basis.

My experience in the Employment team

My tasks have ranged from attending Tribunal to drafting employment contracts and compromise agreements. The partners are happy for trainees to get really involved in the cases and I have been given a great deal of responsibility and client contact. My favourite cases have been those involving sex discrimination claims; being able to play a day-to-day role in the running of such cases has been nerve-wracking, but also very exciting and rewarding. Spending six months as part of the team has given me a broad insight into employment law and has been a great experience which I would certainly recommend.
