Wealth Planning, Family and Business

The work of the FAB team

FAB is one of the three sub-groups of the Wealth Planning department. The FAB Group focuses on advising individuals and families who are mainly based in the UK. There are a broad range of clients including professionals, entrepreneurs and families who own large landed estates.

On a typical day, you might take notes at a meeting where a Partner will provide tax planning advice, draft a will and accompanying letter of wishes and prepare a deed to change the trustees on a settlement. The work is varied because the needs of each client differ, although the overriding aim is always to ensure that family wealth and business assets can pass to future generations in the most tax-efficient and appropriate way.

My experience within FAB

FAB specialises in advising UK-based clients, ranging from entrepreneurs and professionals to well-known families. I attended meetings with partners to discuss wills and succession planning for clients with large landed estates, and drafted straightforward wills and trusts for clients where I have been the main point of contact for the client from start to finish. I also researched interesting points of law such as the most tax efficient way for a client to own a private aircraft and how to get a painting accepted by the nation in lieu of inheritance tax.

My most interesting project has been working across practice groups, issuing Court proceedings with the litigation team on a trust matter which became contentious.
