2023 program

2023 interview dates will be communicated soon.

We also post our program with career services at many top colleges and universities across the United States, as well as on the Symplicity job board.

Our requirements

Each year, we are looking for three or four motivated rising-2L candidates with a strong interest in tax and /or estate planning to join our summer program. Preference is given to candidates with relevant tax, trusts or business experience and/or exposure to international planning.

Our 2017 summer program will include summer associates based in the New Haven, Greenwich and San Diego offices. We generally make offers of full time employment primarily in New Haven or San Diego, though we encourage our associates to consider temporary or permanent placement in other domestic and international offices, according to the needs of the firm.

The interview process

Your school’s career placement office will notify you of the date our firm’s on-campus or job fair visit and will invite you to submit your resume, transcript and cover letter. We will be interviewing 2Ls only for prospective summer associate positions. We also post our summer associate positions with select law schools around the country, either directly or through the Symplicity job board.

If we are not visiting your campus nor posting with your school and you have a strong interest in our work, we would be happy to hear from you directly. Please email our US Recruitment Manager, Christine Cottrell with your transcript, cover letter and resume at christine.cottrell@withersworldwide.com. Please do not apply directly if we are visiting your campus or have a posting with your school. Please note applications are accepted up until mid-August each year, due to interviewing in the early fall for our summer associate program.

We have a two stage interview process. The first stage takes place on campus, at a school sponsored off-campus interview program, or by phone or video conference. Successful candidates will be invited to meet with partners and associates in the firm’s relevant office.

Tips and advice

Communication skills

During on-campus interviews, we’re largely looking at an individual’s communication and presentation skills. We are trying to assess the individual’s candidacy keeping the following in mind:

  • Is the candidate able to both deal effectively with, and talk to people from all walks of life?
  • Does the candidate represent him/herself well and communicate clearly and convincingly?
  • Would the candidate be at ease with my client base?
  • Does the candidate have a demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals?
  • Does the candidate appear to have the intellectual acuity to provide creative solutions?

Intellect and technical ability

Once in our office for call back interviews, we focus on diving deeper into a candidate’s skills, determining whether the individual has the intellect and potential technical ability to be a high quality lawyer, and whether the individual’s personal goals line up with the values of the firm.

Team players

We have a strong teamwork ethic and it is a priority for us to recruit those who can work effectively within a team framework. We actively seek candidates who can collaborate effectively with others both internally and externally.
