First-hand accounts

ASSOCIATE

During my first year at Withers, I have worked on a range of domestic and international tax issues on both the transfer and income tax sides.

This has been very fortunate, because although I came to Withers certain of my interest in tax, I was uncertain of the area in which I wanted to specialize.

The breadth of assignments I have received has enabled me to center my focus on particular areas of tax law while enabling me to develop my drafting and research skills.

‘‘

I have appreciated that many partners take the time to discuss both the legal issues and background of a project to provide a full picture of the client’s concerns, so that each research assignment also involves learning the context in which a legal issue has arisen.

ASSOCIATE

In my first year, Withers has provided me opportunities to directly manage client files and collaborate with our international offices on various research and planning assignments.

The ability to work with different partners on projects spanning from domestic trust administration to international charitable planning has allowed me to expand my skill set.

‘‘

The firm is invested in attorney development and has organized continuing legal education and technical training for young attorneys. These events have given me greater exposure to relevant planning methods and the latest updates in our practice areas.

Withers is unlike any other firm in its breadth of knowledge and talent both on a domestic and global level. Even more, I feel the firm is deeply committed to creating a collegial environment where associates and partners alike can feel comfortable seeking guidance where needed.

‘‘
It has been incredibly exciting for my development as an associate in the private client and tax group to be able to work with partners and clients who deal with complex and unique estate planning and tax issues on a daily basis all the while feeling supported as I grow my practice.
