Program description

The summer program runs for a ten-week period during which time you can expect to be offered the opportunity to visit at least two offices other than the one at which you are based.

Your work is set to ensure that you receive concentrated exposure and training within the core areas of private client and tax. With strong and growing corporate, litigation and real estate practices, it is likely that you will have exposure to these fields as well.

Summer Associates should anticipate receiving work identical to that of first year associates. This typically includes technical research

projects, drafting, planning documents and memoranda for clients, and involvement in a variety of transactions for sophisticated clientele with a potential for client contact.

Training and development is high on the firm’s agenda and summer associates are invited to attend our firm-wide training sessions (which are often conducted on a global basis via videoconferencing). Furthermore, we run a series of seminars specifically for our summer associates, including sessions on income tax, cross-border planning, and estate and gift tax planning.

Training support

The workflow of our summer associates is monitored to ensure that each associate gets exposure to all areas of our work. A mentor is also assigned to ensure that there is someone on hand to answer any questions – whether about the intricacies of gift structuring or the best place to relax after work!

All summer associates have a mid-term review with a Divisional Group Leader and our US Recruitment Manager, Christine Cottrell.

This review helps us to ensure that the work and experience you receive are kept in line with your career aspirations and that your work product reflects the expected level of effort and skill.

Our summer associates are paid the rate of our first year associates – $160,000 per year prorated.

Social events

The calendar of social events will enable you to get to know attorneys on a more personal level. The types of events vary each year, but some examples of popular activities have included cooking classes, a culinary walking tour and a sunset cruise of the Thimble Islands with fresh lobster and happy hour provided on the journey.

We also encourage our attorneys to invite you to casual lunches and dinners during the week as their availability permits.
