Your training contract

Join the law firm for success in Singapore.

We know that you are ambitious in your career and passionate in the practice of law. At Withers KhattarWong, we are equally committed to training you to become world-class lawyers.

Our trainees get the best of both worlds – a strong grounding in Singapore law, and the opportunity to work alongside international lawyers in multi-jurisdictional and cutting-edge legal matters. Our lawyers work together as one global team. Hence, you have the opportunity to be exposed to international clients and international legal issues in the early stages of your career.

We also understand that your long term success cannot be all work and no play. Our working culture encourages our lawyers to work hard and play hard, in a friendly and professional environment. We have lounges for casual catch-ups and discussions, firm-and-team-wide social events and games as well as quarterly lunches and drinks for our lawyers and managers.

What you can expect from us?

Our RLT and training contracts last 6 months each, and you will join one of our practice groups such as wealth planning and tax, corporate, litigation and arbitration (general and criminal), intellectual property and technology, and banking finance and property.

Training contracts are allocated following consultation with the trainee to ensure that consideration is given to their career aspirations alongside the firm’s business needs.

You will be assigned a supervising partner who will provide you with work and be responsible for training, monitoring your performance and offering feedback. You will also be assigned an associate as a buddy to guide you with your work and overall learning experience with Withers KhattarWong. You will have an appraisal near the end of your training contract where objectives are evaluated.

As far as possible and subject to the requirements of our various departments and practice groups, we encourage our trainees to undergo training with different practice areas in Withers KhattarWong with a view to giving our trainees a wider exposure to various and different practice areas during the training contract.

In addition, seminars, briefings and tutorials may be arranged during the course of your training period to aid you in getting a wider exposure to different legal skills, including client care and management, drafting, conducting legal research and due diligence.

Many of our successful trainees are offered the opportunity to stay with the firm upon completion of their training contract and a significant proportion of our partners trained at Withers KhattarWong.
